4 - New York Program Offerings

Relay currently offers the following programs in New York: 

 

Master of Arts in Teaching with Transitional-B Certification 

  • A 2-year, 32-credit, Master of Arts in Teaching program leading to eligibility for a New York Initial Certificate. 

    • NY Teacher Pathway

      • The NY Teacher Pathway supports aspiring teachers, offering a supportive gradual on-ramp into the profession.

      • In the first year, students serve as apprentice teachers, completing a year-long apprenticeship alongside a lead teacher. 

      • In the second year, students teach as a teacher of record (lead teacher) in their endorsement area while holding a Transitional B Certificate.

      • Upon completion of the academic program and all certification requirements, students can apply for their New York Initial Certificate.

    • Teacher of Record Pathway

      • This pathway is designed for students who will be the lead teacher in the first year of enrollment in the M.A.T. program. 

      • Students will serve as a teacher of record (lead teacher) in their endorsement area while holding a Transitional B Certificate throughout both years of the program. 

      • Upon completion of the academic program and all certification requirements, students can apply for their New York Initial Certificate.

Advanced Certificate in Special Education

  • Relay offers an Advanced Certificate in Special Education program for certified educators who wish to expand their skill set to teach all learners. This is a 4-term, 21-credit post-baccalaureate certificate program. 

  • New York educators holding an Initial Certificate may pursue an additional certificate in one of the following:

  • Students with Disabilities (Grades 1-6) OR

  • Students with Disabilities (Grades 7-12) Generalist

*Relay’s 7-12 Students with Disabilities program and license area supports teachers in ICT (Integrated Co-Teaching settings) and who serve as SETSS teachers (Special Education Teacher Support Services).  In order to be eligible to be a student at Relay in the 7-12 major, you must be the lead Special Education teacher of record in a 7-12 English Language Arts, Math, Science, or Social Studies classroom, working in an ICT setting or in a SETTS position.  Relay’s 7-12 Students with Disabilities Program does not prepare teachers for 12:1:1 classrooms with moderate-to-severe students with disabilities.
