6 - New York Hollyhock Humanities Fellowship Program

The Hollyhock Humanities Fellowship welcomes high school Social Studies teachers from across the New York metro area who are interested in nourishing their intellectual souls by developing their humanities content and pedagogy knowledge through equity-focused learning communities, exploring New York cultural institutions, and partnering with experts in the field. 

 

Features of the Fellowship

The Fellowship is a year-long professional learning experience that includes a two-week summer seminar, and Saturday Intersessions that include: 

  •  Professional historians in the field like:
    • Eric Foner (Columbia), 
    • Yohuru Williams (University of St. Thomas)
    • Kevin Kruse (Princeton)
    • Rigorous, equity-centered pedagogy in historical thinking, close reading and discourse.  
    • Partnering with cultural institutions throughout the city like the 

      • Museum of the City of NY,
      • The NY Historical Society,
      • The Museum of the Chinese in America 
      • Gilder-Lehrman Archives.
    • Coaching: in-person and video-based coaching sessions throughout the school year with expert practitioners 

    • A $2,000 stipend for participation

    • 60-75 NY CTLE Continuing education hours

    • 6 A+/P Credits

Eligibility and Criteria for Selection

Relay Hollyhock Humanities Fellowship is seeking applicants who meet these criteria:

  • NYC-area High School Social Studies Teachers with at least 3 years of experience

  • Desire to learn, grow and get better

  • Commitment to Year-Long Engagement (attend Summer Seminar, Saturday Workshops, and monthly coaching)

  • Preference is given to teachers in under-resourced communities (>50% FRPL)
