Introduction

State-Specific Orientation is a one-hour virtual session designed to provide new Relay students with essential information about certification, licensure, and teaching expectations specific to their state. Facilitated by state-based faculty and Relay support staff, this session ensures you begin your journey with clarity around state requirements and the support systems available to you locally.

During this session, you will:

  • Learn about your state’s licensure and certification process

  • Understand role expectations and required fieldwork

  • Review key Transition Point dates and compliance requirements

  • Meet the faculty and staff who will support you throughout your program

This orientation is also a valuable opportunity to connect with your local Relay community and ask questions specific to your state.

To register for State-specific Orientation:

  1. Log in to your Status Page

  2. Navigate to the Welcome to Relay Section

  3. Select State-specific Orientation 

  4. Select a session that works best for your schedule

  • Wednesday, June 17, 2026 | 12:00-1:00 pm MT / 1:00 am-2:00 pm CT / 2:00-3:00 pm ET 

  • Monday, July 13, 2026 | 10:30-11:30 am MT / 11:30-12:30 pm CT / 12:30-1:30 pm ET

  • Monday, August 17, 2026 | 11:30-12:30 pm MT / 12:30 am-1:30 pm CT / 1:30-2:30 pm ET

  • Wednesday, September 16, 2026 | 5:00-6:00 pm MT / 6:00-7:00 pm CT / 7:00-8:00 pm ET


Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to attend both New Student Orientation and State-specific Orientation?

Yes. Each orientation covers different aspects of your Relay experience. Attending both New Student Orientation and any required State-Specific Orientation will help ensure your success. Multiple session options are available for flexibility.


How long are the orientations?
Each orientation session is one hour.


Who should attend?
All new, incoming students are strongly encouraged to attend to get the most out of their first term at Relay.


Should I attend New Student Orientation and State-Specific Orientation on different days?
Yes. Both session types are offered multiple times throughout the summer. You may choose the dates that best fit your schedule.


What will I learn in State-specific Orientation?
You’ll gain insights into your state’s certification pathway, role expectations, fieldwork requirements, and key Transition Point dates. You’ll also get to know the team supporting your journey and how to stay on track with licensure and program completion


Who leads State-specific Orientation?
State-Specific Orientations are co-facilitated by Relay state-based faculty and support staff who specialize in certification and licensure requirements for your location.


What happens if I can’t attend orientation?
Live participation is strongly encouraged to ensure engagement and clarity; however, recordings will be available in the Resources section.


What if I can’t attend a live session?
We offer multiple session dates. If you’re unable to attend live, visit the Resources section to access orientation guides, slides, and recordings.
