First Steps

Prepare your Finances

  • Review your Financial Aid Offer on your My Relay Portal.
  • Enroll in AmeriCorps (where available). AmeriCorps application instructions will be sent this fall via your Relay student email. AmeriCorps members gain access to the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award (up to $7,395) after completing their teaching year. 

Prepare for Classes

  1. EDU500 - Your Rights & Responsibilities as a Teacher or EDU540 - Relay Orientation
  2. EDU501 - Building a Culturally Responsive & Inclusive Classroom for Diverse Learners
  3. EDU502 - Introduction to Instructional Planning
  4. If you are enrolled in a Teaching Exceptional Learners (TEL) / Special Education you will participate in TEL601 - Introduction to Special Education
  5. If you are enrolled in a Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Learners (CLD) / English Language Learners/English as a Second Language program, you will participate in CLD501 - Teaching Multilingual Learners in Inclusive Settings and CLD502 - Theory of Second Language Acquisition
  6. You may, depending on your program, also be required to take an asynchronous course specific to your content area in your first term.
