Students must submit an official transcript showing that a bachelor’s degree has been conferred in order to begin coursework at Relay Graduate School of Education.
Applicants who are still completing their bachelor’s degree may be provisionally admitted while they finish their remaining coursework. However, students may not register for or attend coursework until Relay has received and verified an official transcript confirming the degree has been awarded. If the official transcript indicates a GPA that does not meet the admissions requirements for the student’s program, Relay may rescind the offer of admission.
Students who do not complete their provisional admissions requirements by the required deadline may be given the opportunity to defer their admission to a future term or will be administratively withdrawn from Relay.
Definition of Provisional Admission
Provisional admission refers to applicants who have:
- Received and accepted an offer of admission to Relay, and
- Have one or more outstanding admissions requirements that must still be completed.
While a student holds provisional admission status, certain academic and financial limitations apply.
Once a student submits all required documentation and satisfies their provisional admissions requirements, they will be considered fully admitted and may register for coursework.
International Degree Holders
Applicants who earned their bachelor’s degree outside of the United States may be eligible for provisional admission in certain states if Relay has received an official course-by-course evaluation confirming that the degree is equivalent to a U.S. bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.
These applicants may be provisionally admitted pending receipt of the official international transcript.
This policy currently applies to applicants in the following states:
- Connecticut
- Illinois
- New York
- Tennessee
- Texas
Financial Implications
Students who are provisionally admitted should also be aware of the following financial aid and loan policies.
Federal Financial Aid
Students with provisional admission status are not eligible to receive federal financial aid until they are:
- Officially enrolled
- Fully matriculated
- Actively attending courses
For students enrolled in federal aid–eligible programs, eligibility for federal aid (including Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loans and TEACH Grants) begins only after all provisional admissions requirements have been satisfied.
Loan Deferment
Students who are provisionally admitted are not eligible for in-school deferment for any pre-existing student loans. Additionally, students enrolled in certification-only programs are not eligible for in-school loan deferment under any circumstances.
