Is the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award taxed?

Yes, all payments made using the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award are subject to federal tax in the year funds are used.  The award is considered taxable income regardless of whether it is used to pay current educational costs or to repay qualified student loans. Please note that taxes are due only in the year in which the funds are accessed, not the year the award is earned.
