When you exit an AmeriCorps program prior to the end of the service term, this is an Early Exit. There are two types of Early Exits: Exit for Cause and Exit for Compelling Personal Circumstances.
Exit for Cause: A member decided to leave, finds a new job, leaves for dissatisfaction, is dismissed, etc. A member exited for cause receives no portion of their Segal AmeriCorps Education Award.
Exit for Personal Compelling Circumstances: a member exits due to circumstances outside of their control (e.g., spouse in military, medical reasons, mental health, program is shut down). A member exited for personal compelling circumstances receives a partial Segal AmeriCorps Education Award. The amount of the award is based on how many hours they have served at time of exit.
Please view this decision tree to learn more about the difference between these two Early Exits.
