Relay certifies eligible matriculated students who are enrolled at Relay GSE every month in the National Student Clearinghouse (NSC), who reports on our behalf to the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) and many private loan providers (see further information regarding federal and private loan providers below). This takes place by the 20th of every month throughout the year.
Relay certifies all enrolled students (except for students in Professional Education (Leadership) programs). Additionally, Relay only certifies enrollment for the current term. Relay does certify enrollment for future terms. If you are seeking to certify future terms for loan deferment, you must wait for those terms to have any prior loans deferred.
Students with the following criteria qualify to have their loans deferred as outlined by loan providers:
- Fully Enrolled at Relay in current term
- Students Conditionally/Provisionally Admitted to Relay enrolled cannot have their loans deferred
- Students who are NEWLY Admitted to Relay enrolled and are receiving requests for loan payments, please wait until the 20th of every month for your enrollment to be reported.
- However, if you need a form filled out as soon as possible (usually takes up to 2 weeks to fulfill form requests), please proceed forward.
- Enrollment Criteria
- Enrolled half-time
- If you fall below half-time (4 credits), you will be reported as Less-Than-Half-Time and do not qualify for loan deferment
- Enrolled in a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) OR enrolled in an Advanced Certificate (AC) Program (see “Higher Education Awards”)
- Any other programs do NOT qualify for loan deferment
- Enrolled half-time
- If you graduate/exit Relay (withdraw, take a Leave of absence, administrative or programmatically withdrawn), you are no longer enrolled enrollment will not be reported to Clearinghouse
- If you transfer and enroll into a Teacher Certification/Licensure Program (or any other non-MAT/AC Programs), you no longer qualify for loan deferment. Relay will report your exit from your deferment-eligible program at the time of the transfer.
As Relay reports monthly, there are no next steps for you to take. However, if your provider is requesting you to make payments, please follow the steps below to defer your previous student loans:
- Please contact your loan provider and ask what they need in order to defer your loans. Your loan provider will be able to clarify their process.
- If you’d like us to complete a specific form, please complete our In-School Verification Form.
- If you’d like an enrollment verification letter, please complete our Enrollment Verification Request Form.
Federal Student Loans
As mentioned above, Relay certifies eligible matriculated students who are enrolled at Relay GSE every month in the National Student Clearinghouse (NSC), who reports on our behalf to the National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS). If your provider is requesting you to make payments, you can also apply for a loan deferment by contacting your loan servicer. Your servicer will inform you about deferment types for which you may be eligible. Servicer information is available by logging in to your account using your FSA ID (username and password) and selecting “View loan servicer details” on your Dashboard. To learn more details about Loan Deferment, please follow this link for frequently asked questions about this policy.
Private Loans
Though the National Student Clearinghouse (NSC) reports to most private loan providers, they do not service all private loan providers. If you have a private loan not serviced by NSC and would like to defer your loans and would like for us to fill out a specific form, you must submit an In-School Verification Form. Please email your form to [email protected]. You will likely need to abide by the parameters listed above in order to defer your loans, but you should speak to your provider for further details. If your loan provider does not provide a form, Relay can provide an enrollment verification letter. Please submit an Enrollment Verification Request Form.
If you have additional questions, please feel free to sign up for office hours here or email [email protected].
